Replacing a MicroLogix 1500 (1764)
Key facts
- The MicroLogix 1500 bases and processors (1764-24AWA, 1764-24BWA, 1764-28BXB, 1764-28BXB1, 1764-LRP, 1764-LSP) were discontinued on 30 June 2017.
- The MicroLogix 1400 (1766) is the one MicroLogix line still sold. Its status is Active Mature: supported, but a newer family exists.
- The 1764 memory modules (MM1, MM2, MM3 and RTC versions) have no listed replacement.
Option A: move to MicroLogix 1400
The manufacturer points to a 1766-L32 series controller, with 1762 expansion I/O added if needed. Best fit for small machines where staying in the MicroLogix family keeps changes small.
Option B: move to CompactLogix if you want to keep 1769 I/O
If the existing system uses 1769 expansion I/O, the suggested routes are a 1769-L16ER with a 1769-AENTR adapter, or a 1769-L24ER controller.
Next step
Rockwell's Integrated Architecture Builder (IAB) tool includes a MicroLogix migration wizard that suggests a specific controller for your configuration. Confirm the final part list with your distributor.
